THE fishing fleet was out in force on Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony.
Generations of the local fishing community join together to lead the parade carrying a statue of Saint Peter, the patron saint of fishing.
Held after the street parade, the ceremony sees the fleet blessed for a safe and prosperous year.
Ulladulla Fisherman's Co-op president Mario Puglisi said he was overwhelmed by the wonderful response to the ceremony.
"It was fantastic - the blessing was perfect," he said.
"It was a huge group representing the local fishing community and I was very, very happy and very, very proud of them.
"I am always cautious about numbers because it is the top part of the season for the longliners but they all returned home to take part, put the flags up on their boats and looked wonderful.
"I want to thank the whole community for the acceptance of this religious tradition the fishing community bought over from Italy.
"It's beautiful to see the community come together."
With the boats decked out in colourful flags and with traditional flags lining the wharf, the colourful sight is the cornerstone of the Easter Blessing of the Fleet festivities.
Taking part for the first year, Catholic priest Father Davidanthony Davies lead the procession and conducted the ceremony.
Following speeches from the Blessing of the Fleet Princess Sally Lewis and members of the Italian fishing community, Father Davidanthony and Shoalhaven mayor Paul Green boarded the Marine Rescue vessel and blessed all the boats in the harbour.
"Father Davidanthony was very good - his nature is fantastic," Mario said.
"I don't think Father Davidanthony realised it was going to be such a big event but he was very good - we loved it."
